"Nocturnes" is Nathan Melville's debut science fiction short story, albeit a brief one, with a word count of just over 4300 words and spanning 16 pages. Additionally, it offers a glimpse into his forthcoming novella, Intrusia, a science fiction, crime psych-thriller.

The hum persists. It taunts her to the point of insanity. Is it in her head, or is there something much bigger at play?
Mira, an insomniac, would be lucky if she got eight hours sleep on a good day, but lately, she'd be lucky if she got four. A workaholic software engineer, where even long tedious hours couldn't grant her sleep. No amount of meditation, herbal remedies, or prescriptions could help her. It was doom and gloom.
But then, to add to her torment, she heard the hum. Where was it coming from? When will it stop? Why does she feel like she is being watched? Why is there blood by the window?

Nathan is a 34 year old techno-thriller, speculative science fiction author based in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia.
With narratives based on ‘Technology Doom’, including scenarios in relation to artificial intelligence, nanotech, surveillance, cybercrime, neuroscience, and cybernetic augmentation.
Outside writing, Nathan has a keen interest in tech, particularly subjects surrounding machine learning, data, engineering and programming. He is an avid music nut with a decent vinyl collection. His favourite genres being psych-rock, neo-psych and progressive metal, and some of his favourite bands include, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Caligula's Horse, and Karnivool.
